Graduation, May 20, 2010

Seniors finished coursework and participated in Graduation Exercises on May 20, 2010 at the Montrose Pavilion. Approximately 300 people crowded into the venue to proudly watch as their students were presented with their diplomas. Keynote speaker Dr. Chuck Alexander delivered a moving speech, and graduate Amanda Peeters delivered the senior speech. Ambriel Rakes and Kayleen Fields sang the National Anthem. Mr. Marty Fevier, Amanda Peeters, John David Klein and Kevin Rust performed the song “Lean on Me” to a happy crowd. Families enjoyed a reception in the lobby where punch and cake were served. Families and friends posed for pictures with loved ones and socialized in the spirit of merriment.

Special thanks to MHS NJROTC, Camelot Gardens, Dr. Chuck Alexander, Ambriel Rakes, Kayleen Fields, Amanda Peeters, David Klein, Kevin Rust and the Pavilion Staff.

Vista Charter Celebrates Earth Day

Vista Charter School Celebrated Earth Day with a clean up day on campus and in the surrounding neighborhood.

CSAP Testing Completed !!!

CSAP Testing Completed! Students and teachers breathed a sigh of relief as the CSAP testing for 2010 came to an end. On March 16th,17th, and 18th tenth grade students tested in reading, writing, math and science. Students with perfect attendance and who put forth their very best effort were rewarded with a Pizza Party and a small drawing for gift cards.

Families enjoyed a reception in the lobby where punch and cake were served. Families and friends posed for pictures with loved ones and socialized in the spirit of merriment. New Vistas – Planning the new Vista Charter School

Vista Charter School Staff and students are excited about our plans to build a new school and we want to share the news! Planning and input takes community involvement and we would love to have your input and assistance.

The process takes time and energy and we have already started the venture with our first two meetings. Our budget and economic sources of funding will be through Capital Construction Grants, other grant funding, and Donations. We are working on grant funding, land grants, and any method we can garner to support our cause. We are pioneering an individualized and alternative approach to learning to insure the success of our students. Our goal is to provide a unique space for the unique needs of our students.

Our first meeting for the new school site was held on January 20, 2010. Those present included the Board Members, Staff and Principal, The representative from Blythe Construction, and a small group of students. The meeting was an open forum to gather input and clarify goals, needs and wants of stock holders.

Three parameters that were addressed were the Goals, Needs and Wants of staff, students, and board members. These three parameters are the guidelines which will drive the cost to build, quality of materials, and spaces needed to house the new Vista Charter School.

Our second meeting was held February 11, 2010 in which teachers, staff and parents met with the Owner’s Rep and Construction Coordinator, Mike Archbold. Teachers and staff were able to look at a visual plan and offer ideas for modification and adjustment for the work areas and components of the physical space necessary to house the new facility.

Haiti Relief Fund

Mr. Buterbaugh donates to the Haiti Relief Fund

 

 

The Haiti Relief project was started by student council.  “We came together with ideas on how we could help to raise money for Haiti.  We put the donation jar out for student donations and we are still going to sell hot chocolate and cookies in the mornings to raise more money.  We came up with the idea because we have been watching the news and hearing what is happening to the Haitians, and they have lost a lot of their belongings and they are in need of money”….Amanda Peeters 

 

Deadline is yet to be detemined.

The money goes to the Red Cross Organization. Students raised over $150.00 to be donated to the Red Cross Organization

One Digtial Day

One Digital Day took place on January 15, 2010. Vista Photography students documented the events, fun and activities of one 24 hour day. Students captured students hard at work, enjoying time at break, and interacting with each other on a routine day. Night, morning and afternoon classes got into the picture, and staff hammed it up for the camera. Activities included artists at work, students completing their classroom requirements, and taking a few minutes to talk with friends and staff. We had two students “graduate” on that day, followed by the cheers and enjoyment that comes with realizing their goals.
